Grade 10 Rocket Launch: a soaring good time!

20 Dec 2022 | Photos by AJHS ITC

On December 12 &13, 2022, Ateneo de Manila Junior High School Grade 10 students held their rocket launch activity in the football field. The popular science activity - which had been on hold for two years because of the pandemic- called on the boys to apply concepts learned in physics and design a water-powered rocket. They turned their designs into actual rockets made from recycled materials found at home, before trooping to the football field last week to see if their creations would take flight. After ceremonial launches conducted by school administrators and student leaders, the boys saw many of their rockets defy gravity and take flight for a few precious seconds, much to their delight. They then gathered data on the range of their rockets and applied kinematic equations to solve for certain quantities as part of their lesson on projectile motion & Isaac Newton's laws of motion.

All in all, the exciting activity lived up to the hype and was truly a sight for “soar” eyes!

The grade 10 rocket launch activity was held in the AHS football field.
