Call for Applications: Two (2) Data Encoders

Location:            SDC Complex, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave. Quezon City
Duration:            One Month (probationary period); subject to extension

Report to:       Ateneo Policy Center Head

  1. Background

The Ateneo School of Government (ASOG) is the public sector arm of the Ateneo de Manila University. The School’s long-term mission is to teach and work with effective and ethical public servants. It aims to contribute in building prosperous, sustainable, just, and happy communities in the Philippines, empowered by democratic, participatory, transparent, and accountable governance institutions and processes.

As a graduate school for leadership and public service, ASOG's academic and executive education programs bridge the gap between classroom wisdom and real-world policy decision- making and governance. Through its research and extension programs, and its work with public, private, and community organizations, ASOG continues to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in areas such as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.

II. Tasks and Functions

A research project titled “Database on Election-Related Violence in the Philippines” is currently being implemented. This project intends to develop a multidisciplinary database of the election-related violence and killings for the Philippines. In particular, the Data Encoder of the project is expected to:

  • Provide assistance to the Dean, the head of the Ateneo Policy Center, or the Project Team in data collection and data processing, specifically in relation to encoding and archiving of content (e.g., text, photos, videos) on election-related violence;
  • Provide assistance in the development and preparation of research outputs such as reports, empirical papers, briefs, notes, and presentations;
  • Attend all meetings, events and other functions deemed as necessary by the project team

 

III.  Description of Education, Competence, and Required Experience

Applicants for the Ateneo Policy Center - Data Encoder position must have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any social science course or any related fields; those with above average academic performance have an advantage;
  • Prior experience in database development and data management is an advantage;
  • Can efficiently handle and deliver outputs with minimal supervision;
  • Has excellent organizational skills and is able to contribute to team research processes.
