The Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) through the Executive Education Program (ExecEd) recently conducted a public offering and comprehensive three-day training program on “Project Management for Managing Development Sector Projects” held on 7 to 9 August 2024, at the Pacifico Ortiz Hall, Ateneo School of Government, Ateneo de Manila University. The training brought together participants coming from Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society, Institute for Solidarity in Asia, Anti-Red Tape Authority, National Economic and Development Authority, Aboitiz Power Corporation, Hybrid Social Solutions, Inc., ASoG as well as Provincial and Local Government Units (Butuan, Bohol, Ormoc and Muntinlupa).

Project Management

The three-day course was meticulously designed to equip both seasoned managers and aspiring project managers with essential principles of project planning, execution, and monitoring. Participants were engaged in in-depth discussions on each phase of project management, with a particular emphasis on risk management and the institutionalization of project gains. These special topics were integrated to ensure the course was tailored to meet the specific needs and challenges faced by the participants in their respective sectors.

Project Management

The training was facilitated by Mr. Manolito “Chito” Novales, a core faculty of ASoG and a practitioner, who brought wealth of experience from managing both local and international projects, many of which were under international financial institutions funded agreements. His pragmatic approach resonated with the participants, as he shared real-world experiences that reflected complexities of managing various aspects of development projects. A key focus of the training was the logical framework approach which was used to guide participants through the critical elements of project management, including goal setting, output and outcome identification, and the alignment of activities. Structured learning exercises allowed participants to apply these concepts directly, enhancing their practical understanding.

Project Management

In the closing session, Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, the Dean of ASoG, commended the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to leverage the knowledge gained to develop and implement projects that align with and advance their institutions’ mission and vision. The course not only provided a solid foundation in project management but also empowered participants to drive meaningful and sustainable change in their organizations.
