Executive Education Program delivers customized project management course for Borongan City LGU

30 Jan 2025

The Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) Executive Education Program, in partnership with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), delivered a customized Project Management Training designed specifically for the local government of Borongan City, on 21 to 23 January 2025, at the Quest Hotel and Conference Center. This training aimed to strengthen the Borongan City's capacity to manage its projects approved under the People Survival Fund (PSF), with a focus on enhancing climate resilience. Participants were provided with project management tools and methodologies that can be applied to other projects of the Borongan City LGU, ensuring a more systematic and efficient approach to governance and development initiatives.

Officials of the local government unit of Borongan City, including the Honorable Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C Agda, department heads, and staff participated in the training.

ASoG’s Executive Education Program served as the learning service provider, equipping participants with strategic frameworks, best practices, and structured approaches essential for effective project execution. The training focused on the PRINCE2 methodology, with emphasis on efficient planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management. Through this course, Borongan City officials learned how to ensure their projects stay on track, manage resources effectively, and engage stakeholders in building sustainable climate resilience.

ASoG’s Head of the Executive Education Program Ms Sharon Grace S Yabut, and Adjunct Faculty member and certified PRINCE2 Project Management professional Mr Noel M Macalalad served as the training facilitators and resource persons. In her opening remarks, Ms Yabut emphasized the importance of the training in supporting Borongan’s action toward building resilience and sustainability, particularly as the city faces the challenges posed by climate-related hazards, “We are not only working toward achieving the goals of the People’s Survival Fund (PSF) but also setting a benchmark for resilience-building efforts in the region.”

The training formally concluded with the awarding of the Certificates of Completion to the participants. In their closing messages, Mr Alan Luis Silayan, Chief of Party at CRS, and Ms Anna Katrina Aspuria, Development Programs and Innovation Unit Head at PDRF, both encouraged the participants to apply their newly gained skills to strengthen climate resilience within their communities in relation to the project. Dean of the Ateneo School of Government Dr Philip Arnold P Tuaño, through a recorded message, expressed his hope that participants not only gained technical expertise but also developed a deeper appreciation for the role of participatory governance in fostering resilience and sustainability.
