Ateneo celebrates the diaconate ordination of alumni Rev Dom Bulan SJ and Rev Bien Cruz SJ

11 Oct 2025

Ateneo de Manila University joyfully celebrates the Ordination to the Diaconate of two of our distinguished alumni, true blue Ateneans Rev Dom Joseph B Bulan SJ and Rev Bien Emmanuel C Cruz SJ.

Rev. Dom Joseph B. Bulan, SJ and Rev. Bien Emmanuel C. Cruz, SJ.

They were ordained by the Most Rev Elias L Ayuban Jr CMF DD, Bishop of Cubao, on the morning of Saturday, 11 October 2025, at the Church of the Gesù, Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.

Rev Dom Bulan SJ graduated from the Ateneo de Manila Grade School in 2005, Ateneo High School in 2009 (Class Valedictorian, Evelio Javier Awardee), and Ateneo de Manila University College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, major in Mathematical Finance, and a minor in German Studies, magna cum laude. Before entering the Society of Jesus on 30 May 2015, he served as Executive Assistant in the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Finance.

Rev Bien Cruz SJ graduated from the Ateneo de Manila Grade School in 2006, Ateneo High School in 2010, and Ateneo de Manila University College in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Sociology, honorable mention. He entered the Society of Jesus on the same date as Rev. Bulan—30 May 2015.

Their academic excellence, commitment to service, and steadfast faith have been evident since their early years at Ateneo de Manila. We are deeply proud of their ongoing journey and formation.

As they take this sacred step in their Jesuit vocation, we give thanks for their generous “yes” to a life of service and witness. Their vocations are a blessing to the Church and a source of inspiration to our community.

May God continue to guide and strengthen them as they prepare for the priesthood.

Ad majorem Dei gloriam!
