The Ateneo de Manila Grade School (AGS), in partnership with the Ateneo Grade School Parents' Auxiliary Council (AGSPAC), held its first parenting seminar of the school year titled “Microaggression: What Parents Need to Know.” Approximately 280 AGS parents attended the online session last November 15, conducted by multi-awarded Filipino psychologist and Ateneo de Manila University Professor of Psychology, Dr. Regina Hechanova Alampay.
The topic resonated strongly with participants, emphasizing how everyday words and actions can leave lasting imprints on children. Dr. Alampay guided parents through identifying toxic behaviors that often appear subtle or are dismissed as jokes, yet can significantly impact a child’s confidence and overall development.
Also present during the seminar were AGS Headmaster Mr. Jervy Robles, Assistant Headmaster for Administration Mrs. Nerie Cabacungan, and Assistant Headmaster for Formation Mrs. Virgie Esteves, who helped address questions from the parent community.
Earlier this year, AGS teachers and staff—along with school bus mommies, school bus daddies, school bus drivers, and yayas—received the same training on recognizing and preventing microaggression. These initiatives strengthen the school’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all students.
The next AGSPAC activity, a Family Advent Recollection, is scheduled for December 13.
