12 Dec 2025
The Ateneo School of Government, through its Executive Education Program, concluded its two-day course on Strategic Leadership for Reliable and Accountable Governance from 27 to 28 November 2025. The course gathered leaders and practitioners from local government units, national agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, the private sector, and the academe for an intensive learning experience on critical thinking, high reliability organization principles, and Completed Staff Work (CSW).
Participants came from the City Government of Ormoc, the Local Government Unit of Caramoan (Camarines Sur), the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Bureau of the Treasury, the Social Housing Finance Corporation, the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation, and the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). Their diverse backgrounds reflected a shared commitment to improving internal systems, decision-making processes, and institutional culture.

The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Kenneth Y. Hartigan-Go, who is a faculty at the Ateneo School of Government and a Senior Research Fellow of the Ateneo Policy Center. He previously served as Undersecretary of the Department of Health and Director General of the Philippine Food and Drug Administration. Drawing from his extensive leadership experience, Dr. Hartigan-Go guided participants through case discussions, hands-on activities, and scenario-based exercises. His lectures highlighted how reliability, strategic thinking, and well-prepared staff work contribute to sound decision-making and stronger public institutions.

Dean Jennifer S. Oreta, PhD, Dean of ASoG, opened the course and underscored the need for leaders who can navigate complexity with clarity, emphasizing that effective governance requires both analytical rigor and a strong sense of public duty. In closing the course, Ms. Sharon Grace S. Yabut, Head of the Executive Education Program, congratulated the participants for their active engagement and encouraged them to bring the principles of critical thinking, reliability, and professional staff work into their respective institutions.
