21 Feb 2026
Professor Emeritus (Sociology) Dr Emma E Porio of the Dr Rosita G Leong School of Social Sciences (RGLSOSS), Ateneo de Manila University delivered a lecture on “Gender Vulnerabilities, Environment, and Culture in Disaster-Prone Communities” at the Climate Change forum organized by the City of Cebu through its Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC) on February 20, 2026, at the Cebu City Museum.
The event, titled “Climate Change: Its Impact on Gender and Culture,” convened scholars, local officials, and community leaders to examine how climate risks intersect with social structures, culture, and lived experiences, particularly in vulnerable communities.
Dr Porio’s scholarship has long advanced transdisciplinary approaches that link environmental change, social inequality, and participatory governance. Her work continues to inform policy discussions on sustainable urban development, climate justice, and community-based adaptation in the Philippines.
