Ignatian spirituality toward ecological consciousness and stewardship spiritual panel discussion

Inspired by Fr Joseph Carver SJ, who reminds us that our relationship with creation reflects our bond with God and one another, this TALAB Talk invited the participants to deeply consider their role as co-creators and caretakers of our environment. This event was a call to "reconcile with creation," embracing the Ignatian vision of interconnectedness and responsibility.

The participants explored the Ignatian principles that cultivate contemplation and ignite a renewed commitment to ecological reconciliation. We reflected on the wounds of the Earth—the damage caused by environmental crises—which impact not only our planet but also our spiritual well-being, calling us to nurture and heal our shared home.

Dr Valdez begins her keynote presentation with an exhibition of the oneness of creation.

Dr Carmen “Pinky” Valdés, President of Sacred Springs, shared Saint Ignatius’ transformative vision by the Cardoner River, known as the "Contemplation to Attain the Love of God." This insight teaches us that God is present and laboring in all creation, bathing the world in an endless flow of blessings and gifts, like sunlight radiating from the sun.

Speakers from left to right, Ms Lachica-Hidalgo, Dr Valdez, and Ms Lilio.

Following her, Ms Candy Lachica-Hidalgo, Deputy Coordinator, from the Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc. discussed her organization’s dedication to climate justice, sustainable agriculture, and the Rights of Nature, along with their leading role in the national anti-mining campaign. The powerful testimony of Ms Miles Lilio of San Isidro Labrador Parish, Brgy Bagong Silangan, QC, who faced natural calamities firsthand, highlighted the human impact of environmental crises on lives, communities, and souls.

Before the open forum, participants share insights in small groups.

This gathering went beyond sharing ideas; it extended an invitation to a personal response. Rooted in Ignatian spirituality and inspired by St. Ignatius’ words, "finding God in all things," we honored our commitment to protect and sustain our common home.
