Vertical integration in ASMPH: A shared neurology preceptorial experience
25 Mar 2026
In the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH), the commitment to vertical integration continues to grow stronger. This meaningful collaboration brings together YL6 (second year) and YL7 (third year) medical students in a shared clinical preceptorial experience—fostering deeper learning, mentorship, and teamwork in neurology.
Through this immersive session, students not only revisit their theoretical knowledge, but apply them in an actual patient encounter while learning from one another across levels—integrating perspectives, refining clinical reasoning, and building confidence at the bedside.
Together, they perform comprehensive neurological history-taking and examination, work through neuroanatomical localization, and develop well-grounded differential diagnoses. The experience is further enriched by collaborative discussions on appropriate diagnostics and rational management planning.
More than just a learning activity, this has become a platform for layered learning, peer mentorship, and real-world clinical integration, guided by board-certified neurologists of the Philippine Neurological Association (PNA).
We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr Mark Anthony Sta Maria and Dr Pearl Angeli Diamante, Neurology Faculty of ASMPH, for their continued leadership in this initiative, and to our valued partner, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, for sustaining this collaborative learning environment.
