CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Research Assistant for National Security Program

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Unit:                 Ateneo School of Government (ASOG)

Location:         SDC Complex, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave. Quezon City

Duration:         Three Months (probationary period); subject to extension

Report to:       Ateneo Policy Center Head  

Program:        National Security

 

I. Brief Description

The Ateneo School Government (ASOG) is the public-sector arm of the Ateneo de Manila University. The School’s long-term mission is to teach and work with effective and ethical public servants. It aims to contribute to building prosperous, sustainable, just, and happy communities in the Philippines, empowered by democratic, participatory, transparent, and accountable governance institutions and processes.

As a graduate school for leadership and public service, ASOG's academic and executive education programs bridge the gap between classroom wisdom and real-world policy decision-making and governance. Through its research and extension programs and its work with public, private, and community organizations, ASOG continues to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in areas such as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.

II. Scope of Work

The Research Assistant shall be part of the project development team and expected to provide research and general support in line with its research agenda to promote inclusive development in areas such as national security. The research outputs shall be submitted to the Ateneo Policy Center Head. In particular, the Research Assistant is expected to:

  • Provide assistance to the Dean or the Policy Center Head in the development of research outputs such as policy briefs, briefing notes, presentations, empirical papers, and other research outputs, specifically by conducting reviews and analyses of literature, data gathering (may include development of research instruments; conduct of field interviews, surveys, FGDs; review of literature, etc.), as well as data analysis and write-up;
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of academic events organized by the Dean, or Program Head, which may include but are not limited to conferences, seminars, and research colloquia;
  • Lead in the development and maintenance of databases (e.g. database of partners, conferences, experts) for the expansion of networks;
  • Perform such other functions as may be assigned by the Dean and his authorized representative similar to, and related to the functions enumerated above.

III. Description of Education, Competence, and Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in any social science, with above average academic performance; Masteral units an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and appreciation of development; 
  • Graphics presentation skills is an advantage;
  • Self-management, as evidenced by the ability to deliver outputs with minimum supervision;
  • Excellent English communication skills, oral and written;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a team

IV.  Application Requirements
