TALAB 2023 is here, and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology proudly presents our event entitled “Drag Queens React to Social Barriers and Support” that will be held on 19 October, Thursday, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Leong Hall Auditorium. It is a collaboration with Kalipunang Sosyolohiya at Antropolohiya (KSA), which is the home organization of AB Sociology students and students from other courses who are interested in Sociology.

In line with this year's theme of "Renewing Our Commitment: Persons for Others @ 50", we have invited drag queens to learn more about their experiences, struggles and their broader identity formation. We are engaging them in a dialogue that will cover how their communities have supported them and how the Ateneo community can participate in supporting these communities.

For the event, we are highlighting the importance of social institutions in achieving social justice. Historically, queer performers are a highly marginalized group whose lives and livelihoods have been disrupted by groups and institutions that discriminate against them. However, institutions can also be empowering. Through this talk, students will be exposed to practical ways in which social institutions have empowered the marginalized, and this can inspire them to participate in institutions that empower others.

The TALAB Event “Drag Queens React to Social Barriers and Support” will be held on 19 October 12023, Thursday, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. For more news updates and announcements on the event, head on to the official Facebook page of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology: https://www.facebook.com/ateneosocioanthro?mibextid=LQQJ4d
