In Memoriam: Dr Raul C Pertierra

 

Dr Pertierra pioneered the anthropological and sociological investigation of digital communications and had written intensively on social theories implicating culture, technology, and critical questions concerning modernity. 

 

He was born on 2nd July 1941 in Manila, where he received his foundational education. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate anthropology studies at Macquarie University in Australia, where he honed his teaching and scholarly engagement. He returned to the Philippines as a balik-scientist in 1999, training and serving generations of Filipino scholars at the Ateneo and other universities in the country while simultaneously engaging with leading academics globally. 

 

The Department remembers Raul and the indelible mark he offered to Philippine and the Filipino scholarship.
