Claudio A Armengol and Erin Ysobelle L Muhi, esteemed graduates of Ateneo de Manila University’s AB Economics program, have achieved remarkable recognition for their groundbreaking thesis, "Beyond Closed Doors: Unveiling the Socioeconomic Triggers of Intimate Partner Violence against Women." The paper, which delves into a critical yet often overlooked aspect of gender-based violence, was presented at the prestigious 7th Asia Future Conference held at Chulalongkorn University.

Their research provided deep insights into the socioeconomic factors that contribute to intimate partner violence, offering valuable perspectives for policymakers and advocates striving to address and mitigate gender-based violence in society. Their work is a crucial addition to the ongoing global conversation on women's rights and safety.

Armengol and Muhi’s outstanding presentation not only earned them the Best Paper Award but also the Best Presentation Award, underscoring the excellence of their research and their ability to communicate their findings effectively. Representing both the Ateneo de Manila University and the Philippines, they were commended by the conference chairs and panels for the significant impact and relevance of their work.

In addition to their international accolades, Armengol and Muhi’s thesis also won First Place at the Best Undergraduate Thesis in Economics Showcase and Awarding Ceremony for the school year 2023-2024. This recognition further affirms the high quality and significance of their research within the academic community at Ateneo de Manila University.

This dual recognition at both national and international levels is a testament to the dedication and intellectual rigor that Armengol and Muhi brought to their thesis, and it highlights the important contributions that young scholars can make to pressing social issues. The awards also reflect the strength of the academic environment at Ateneo de Manila University, which continues to produce graduates who excel on global platforms.

The success of Armengol and Muhi at the Asia Future Conference and the Undergraduate Thesis Showcase is not just a personal achievement but also a proud moment for the Department of Economics of Ateneo de Manila University. Their work serves as an inspiration for future generations of students and researchers committed to addressing social challenges and advocating for a more just and equitable world.

Armengol and Muhi expressed their gratitude to the faculty and mentors at Ateneo, acknowledging that their success would not have been possible without the invaluable guidance and support they received throughout their academic journey.
