Ateneo de Manila University made its debut in the QS Sustainability Rankings, a rankings table evaluating higher education institutions worldwide on real-world impact. The 2024 rankings featured nearly 1,400 Universities, almost double the number of participants in the previous year.
The rankings utilize a methodology that is composed of indicators designed to measure an institution's ability to tackle the world’s greatest environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenge. Universities are assessed according to three categories: Environmental Impact (45%), Social Impact (45%) and Governance (10%) which contribute to an overall score (100%).
The Environmental Sustainability lens falls under the Environmental Impact category, which looks at metrics like: Climate change commitment, Student Society focused on Environmental Sustainability, and Alumni Impact for Innovation, to name a few.
Using this lens, Ateneo de Manila ranked highest amongst participating universities in the Philippines and 38th amongst all participating universities globally. A full results table is available to download here.
As a Jesuit institution, the University is committed to participating in Pope Francis’ 7-year journey towards Integral Ecology through the spirit of Laudato Si’. Ateneo de Manila has made Integral Ecology a part of its Strategic Plan. The University's Laudato Si' plan is organized under three inter-related themes: the University as catalyst for ecological conversion; the University as a living laboratory for place-based pedagogy; and the University as an enabler of social transformation.
